Baby eye color question?

if both me and the father have blue eyes, and both of our parents have one with blue, one with hazel, is there only a 25% chance for the baby to blue eyes, even though we both have blue eyes?Baby eye color question?
Short answer: Yes.





Scientific answer: Here's how to figure it out:





Lets say ';Blue eyes'; = ';b'; Chromosomes, and ';Brown eyes'; = ';B'; chromosome. Brown or the ';B'; is the more dominant of this particular pairing; hence the capital B.





As we know, this particular genetic pairing is co-dominant, which is where all the shades and colors come from.





Lets ';assume'; that the hazel eyes have Bb = hazel (or rather, 'Brown mixed with blue appears as hazel)

If true blue - Fred Astaire blue - shows through, the chromosomes you have are ';bb';; anything other than bb will be a variation on the color in some way.





The basic matrix to figure it out is to multiply each match, and check the ratio. Bb x Bb would equal 4 matches that looked like this: BB, Bb, bb, Bb (2 chances for a child to have hazel, 1 chance for brown and 1chance for blue.)

Most likely your baby will have blue eyes since blue is recessive and in order to have blue eyes you have to have two copies of the blue-eyed gene. Since you and the father both have blue eyes, then the only gene you can pass on (theoretically anyway) is the blue-eyed gene. However, eye color genetics is a *little* more complicated than that (in reality there is more than just one gene responsible for eye color) and geneticists don't really understand the color genetics behind colors other than blue, brown, and green very well.
75% chance of blue eyes 25% chance of hazel . Although blue eye colour is recessive it may be dominate in you and your partners genes and hazel usually is dominate gene but all depends on which ones recessive and dominate in yous and your partners genes!!





edit my example: My mum has blonde hair and my dad has black me and my 2 sisters all have blonde hair . Blonde is a recessive gene and since my dad also carries the blonde gene thats how we ended up with it bb or Bb also depends how recessive or dominate the gene is in your family genes etc
I have BROWN eyes my partner has GREEN eyes and my baby has BLUE eyes - I think babys can get there eye color from the third generation - my grandfather had BLUE eyes but neither my mum or dad or my partners mum or dad had blue eyes


Also the excact same thing hapend to my sister Her baby has blue eyes to and it had to have come from our grandfather


WEIRD!
Blue eyes are a recessive gene. If you both have the recessive gene, all of your children can only have that recessive gene. Dominant genes don't just pop up.
I think I read in a Parent's Magazine if both parents have blue eyes the child will have blue eyes.





I am sure there are instances parents with blue eyes have a child with brown eyes, but I think in this scenario it's not as common.
Im not sure but I think your baby will have blue eyes if you both do. lol.








My mom and dad have brown eyes, and I have a sister with blue eyes.
I have brown and my bf has blue...brown is dominant....my son just got the recessive gene and has blue eyes. Your son will probably have blue eyes
