Is it true that if you have a baby that its eyes will only be the mothers or fatheres eye color?

No that is not true. Every baby gets half of their genetic coding from the father and half from the mother. For things such as eye color we all have a dominate gene and a recessive gene. Lets assume both parents have brown eyes, which means they have a dominate gene for brown eyes, but lets also assume that each of them have a recessive gene for blue eyes. In this case there are 4 possible combinations of genes between the father and mother. 1. Father brown and Mother brown, 2. Father blue and Mother brown, 3. Father brown and Mother blue, and 4. Father blue and Mother blue. In 1 through 3, the baby receives a dominate gene for brown eyes from at least one of the parents and the baby will have brown eyes. In the final case the baby receives two recessive genes for blue eyes, resulting in a blue eyed baby.Is it true that if you have a baby that its eyes will only be the mothers or fatheres eye color?

Is it true that if you have a baby that its eyes will only be the mothers or fatheres eye color?
no that's not necessarily true,, my daughter has brown eye and her boyfriend has brown eyes, she had a baby girl a month ago and the baby has blue eyes, which i believe came from the grandfather of the baby
No I have hazel eyes, my ex has brown ....my son has grey.
All Babies are born with blue eyes, they can only have a tone of the parents eye colour not a colour neither of the parents have
the milkman's eys color is a possibility too.

Sorry, silly mood i guess.
NO, Genetics are wild. You could pick up eye color from anyone on any side of the family tree. You or your childs father may have had any number of eye colors.
No...genes can be handed down through generations. Dark is domnate over light...so there's a better chance of the baby having brown eyes instead of blue if mom or dad has brown eyes...same with brown hair.

Go to www.fisherprice.com for a fun baby generator. You put in some details of mom and dad's appearance, and they come up with a possible sketch of baby! I did it for my now two year old son and it fit him to a T.
